Malaysia's Sustainable Energy Development Authority (SEDA) has identified 51.88 MW of additional biomass power generation potential at palm oil mills across Peninsular Malaysia.
Key highlights:
• 51.88 MW of additional biomass power potential identified.
• Only ~1% of Malaysia's biogas potential has been utilised.
• Palm oil residues—including EFB, PKS, Mesocarp Fibre and POME—continue to provide valuable feedstocks for bioenergy.
Why it matters
As one of the world's leading palm oil producers, Malaysia already has a strong biomass resource base. The latest announcement places greater attention on biogas development and the more efficient utilisation of agricultural by-products as part of the country's low-carbon energy transition.
