ASEAN Biomass Market Update | May 2026

Date:2026-05-27

Southeast Asia’s biomass sector continues to show strong momentum in 2026, with new developments across industrial deployment, project investment and regional energy transition.

According to Bioenergy News (23 February 2026), Malaysia-based Wasco Greenergy is accelerating the expansion of its biomass Build-Own-Operate (BOO) model across Southeast Asia. In addition to Malaysia and Indonesia, the company is targeting broader ASEAN industrial steam and decarbonisation opportunities.

The development reflects a wider shift in the regional biomass market, where demand is increasingly moving beyond standalone equipment procurement toward integrated project delivery and long-term operational solutions.

Indonesia is also seeing continued momentum in biomass investment. According to Eco-Business (10 April 2026), Singapore-based Aligned Energy has entered into agreements with Indonesian partners to support biomass fuel production and sustainable feedstock cultivation.

The projects include biomass-to-fuel development and land restoration initiatives, highlighting Indonesia’s growing role as one of ASEAN’s most active biomass investment destinations.

At the regional level, recent analysis by Reccessary indicates that ASEAN bioenergy continues to expand beyond conventional heat and power applications. Growth is being driven by stronger momentum in transport biofuels, industrial decarbonisation and biomass supply chain development across Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam and Malaysia.

From industrial steam replacement to renewable fuel investment, Southeast Asia continues to strengthen its position as one of Asia’s most dynamic biomass growth markets.

As the region advances toward cleaner industrial energy solutions, biomass remains a key area of opportunity for technology suppliers, project developers and end users across ASEAN.
