Date:2026-04-30
ASEAN energy transition in 2026 highlights a shift where oil and gas remain important for energy security, but are increasingly constrained by supply pressure and decarbonization requirements. This creates growing demand for alternative domestic energy sources—especially in industrial and power sectors.
At the same time, biomass and waste-to-energy are gaining strategic relevance across ASEAN as dispatchable and locally available energy solutions. Unlike variable renewables, they provide stable baseload power, support waste management, and enhance energy security—making them increasingly important for industrial clusters and data-driven infrastructure.
Regionally, countries such as Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia, and Malaysia are accelerating the deployment of agricultural waste utilization, biomass co-firing, and waste-to-energy projects, marking a clear shift from pilot projects to commercial-scale energy integration.
