Indonesia Accelerates Waste-to-Energy Development with Five New Projects

Indonesia is accelerating its waste-to-energy (WtE) development, with plans to launch five new projects in June 2026 across Bekasi, Yogyakarta, Bogor, Denpasar, and Bandung.

The projects are expected to collectively process more than 7,000 tons of waste per day and form part of a broader national roadmap targeting the development of 30 waste-to-energy facilities by 2029.

This initiative reflects a strong policy direction focused on improving municipal waste management, expanding renewable energy capacity, and advancing circular economy development.

If fully implemented, Indonesia’s waste-to-energy processing capacity could reach approximately 33,000 tons per day, representing a significant contribution to the country’s long-term waste management and low-carbon development strategy.

From an industry perspective, this expansion is expected to generate increasing demand for waste-to-energy technologies, biomass utilization systems, EPC services, and integrated project development across the ASEAN region.

ABEE 2027 – ASEAN Biomass Energy Expo

The ASEAN Biomass Energy Expo (ABEE 2027) is a dedicated platform focusing on biomass energy, waste-to-energy, and industrial decarbonization sectors in Southeast Asia.

The exhibition brings together technology providers, EPC contractors, project developers, government stakeholders, and energy investors to support regional cooperation and project development in the clean energy sector.

ABEE 2027 will be held on 17–19 March 2027 at IMPACT, Bangkok, and will be co-located with the ASEAN Smart Energy & Energy Storage Expo.

Waste-to-energy is one of the key focus areas of ABEE 2027, providing a platform for industry participants to explore collaboration opportunities and market developments across the region.
