Indonesia’s Waste-to-Energy Push Is Accelerating — and the Market Signal Is Clear

Date:2026-03-04

Indonesia is moving decisively to turn urban waste challenges into a long-term renewable energy opportunity through its national Waste-to-Energy (PSEL) program, backed by the sovereign fund Danantara Indonesia.

The initiative plans to develop 33 WTE projects across major cities, with grid-connected power purchased by PT PLN, creating strong project bankability and attracting global attention. A formal tender process has already begun, with leading international WTE technology providers and EPCs advancing alongside local partners.

Beyond WTE, Indonesia's biomass and bioenergy ecosystem is also gaining momentum. Industry organizations such as KEBI and the Indonesian Biomass Energy Society are actively supporting sustainable biomass, waste-derived fuels, and bioenergy deployment — signaling strong alignment between policy, industry, and technology.

Together, these developments highlight Indonesia — and ASEAN more broadly — as a strategic growth market for WTE, biomass power, EPCs, solution providers, and investors.

ASEAN Biomass Energy Expo brings this ecosystem together on one platform, connecting international technology providers, EPCs, investors, buyers, and regional industry organizations.

Join us at ABEE 2026 to explore emerging WTE and biomass opportunities, connect with trusted industry networks, and engage directly with partners shaping the future of ASEAN's clean energy landscape.
