How Membrane Technology Is Upgrading Biogas into Biomethane (RNG)

Date:2026-01-22

Across Southeast Asia, biogas projects are increasingly looking beyond power generation and exploring biomethane (RNG) as a higher-value energy pathway.

Membrane-based biogas upgrading has emerged as a practical and commercially viable solution, especially for medium-scale and decentralized projects. By selectively separating CO₂ and other impurities, membrane systems can efficiently enrich methane content while offering:

• Modular and scalable system design
• Fast start-up and flexible operation
• Compact footprint, ideal for distributed project sites

As many regional projects remain in the early-to-mid development stage, solutions that balance performance, flexibility, and operational simplicity are gaining strong attention. Membrane upgrading is increasingly viewed not just as a technology option, but as a commercial strategy for turning low-value biogas into tradable renewable gas.

Biomethane is becoming a key topic in Southeast Asia’s energy transition, and system-level discussions are more important than ever.

At ABEE – ASEAN Biomass Energy Expo 2026 (ABEE 2026), project developers, technology providers, and energy stakeholders will come together to exchange insights, explore practical solutions, and discuss how biomethane and upgrading technologies can be applied across real-world projects in the region.

Join us and be part of the conversation shaping the future of biomass and renewable gas in Southeast Asia.
