According to the latest Investment Promotion Project Application Guidelines from the Thailand Board of Investment (BOI), companies generating electricity from renewable sources, including biomass fuel, are receiving substantial policy support.

BOI Policy Fuels the Growth of the Biomass Energy Industry

Since 2023, the BOI has classified companies generating electricity from biomass and other renewable energy sources under the “A2” sector, granting them an 8-year corporate income tax exemption. Beyond tax reductions, these projects also benefit from non-tax incentives, such as import duty exemptions, reducing costs for importing equipment and technology. These measures provide a solid foundation for the sustainable, long-term growth of biomass energy projects.

Promoting Industry Upgrades and Technological Innovation

In addition to tax benefits, BOI policies allow biomass energy companies to own land and hire foreign employees without restrictions on workforce percentages. This encourages the adoption of advanced global technologies and management expertise, boosting technological innovation across the biomass energy sector. Project fund liquidity is also supported, offering companies greater flexibility in remitting foreign currency and facilitating smoother investment processes.
