Brazil's President Lula Calls for Open Biomass Energy Market

Date:2025-12-08

Global Biofuel Cooperation
At the 2025 ASEAN Summit, President Lula explicitly stated that biofuels represent a low-cost and rapidly deployable solution, applicable to a wide range of sectors from light vehicles to aviation and maritime transport. He emphasized their emission reduction potential makes them a key component of the global clean energy transition.

Expanding Biomass Fuel Market
The 2024 global advanced biofuel market was valued at $1.46 billion, projected to grow at a CAGR of 13.9% between 2025-2034 to reach $5.21 billion by 2034.IEA reports: 2025 global biofuel investment is expected to rise 13% YoY, exceeding $16 billion for the first time—yet still accounting for only ~3% of total global energy investment.Regional Focus: US & Brazil lead liquid biofuel investments; Europe accounts for 60% of global biogas/biomethane investments.

Biofuel Outlook
The global biofuel market is growing rapidly—emerging economies are projected to drive 70% of global demand growth, with Brazil’s own demand set to rise 40% by 2028. Biofuels are irreplaceable in diesel and aviation sectors; notably, sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) is expected to make up nearly 1% of global aviation fuel supply by 2028.
