ตามรายงานของศูนย์วิจัยกสิกรไทย (KResearch) ราคาค่าไฟฟ้าในประเทศไทยยังคงเผชิญแรงกดดันจากต้นทุนเชื้อเพลิงที่สูงขึ้นและการลดลงของเงินอุดหนุน ส่งผลให้ผู้กำหนดนโยบายและภาคอุตสาหกรรมหันมาให้ความสนใจกับพลังงานชีวมวลในฐานะทางเลือกที่คุ้มค่าและเป็นพลังงานหมุนเวียน
ฐานการเกษตรที่แข็งแกร่งของไทย (แกลบ อ้อย ไม้เหลือทิ้ง) ช่วยให้มีวัตถุดิบเพียงพอสำหรับการผลิตไฟฟ้าจากชีวมวล
