LONGi's Thailand Koh Lipe PV Project Begins Operation: Breakthrough in Island Power Supply

Date:2025-02-11

LONGi's off-grid photovoltaic power station on Koh Lipe Island in southern Thailand has begun operation, marking the island's shift to a "solar+storage" system, replacing diesel generators

With a 3.5 MW capacity and 7.3 MWh storage, the system powers 6,000 residents and 2,000 daily tourists, generating 4.7 million kWh annually. This cuts CO2 emissions by 3,500 tons per year and reduces energy costs by over 60%. Using smart microgrid technology, it ensures continuous power for up to 72 hours, even in bad weather

The project addresses challenges like diesel transport, pollution, and unstable voltage while preserving the island's ecology. Thai officials say this offers a model for over 2,000 Southeast Asian islands, ushering in the "zero-carbon era" for island power supply
